Lingerie used to be easy to recognize. The terminology was familiar and common to most people. Basic words,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], even though French in nature,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], were readily understandable. Terms such as camisole,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], brassière,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], bustier and corset embraced catalogues,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], magazine covers and women’s chitchat.
But what about today? The terms are coming out faster with every latest style leaving us to ponder what is what. So here is a very brief list of some of the newer nuances in lingerie and a short definition for each.
Basque – also known as a “torsolette” and sometimes referred to as a “merry widow”. A basque is usually tight fitting and may or may not have a skirt attached.
Faja – A brand of shapewear from Columbia but many people are using the term interchangeably to mean all shapewear.
Compression Bra – A bra made to keep the breasts from moving about during activities. The fabric holds the breasts firmly against the body preventing range of movement.
Balconette Bra – A bra designed to lift the breasts and make them appear rounder. The straps tend to be wider than normal bras and the front usually is adorned.
Corselette – Usually a garment containing both the bra and girdle.
