The result was a 22-point, 9-for-13, eight-assist effort. The 20-plus scoring performance was the point guard’s first since Feb. 6, when he put up 26 in a win against the Orlando Magic.

“He came in and said I feel great — my hand feels great, the swelling is all gone,” coach Doc Rivers said. “He said, ‘I know you want to sit me one more game but I don’t know what the difference would be,’ and he’s right. Eddie (Lacerte, the trainer) agreed.
“He attacked and his speed was a factor. We haven’t seen that in a while. It’s amazing when he does that what it does to our offense. It’s pretty good.”

“It’s frustrating just losing,” he said. “We scored 100 points. It just seems that we have a lot of fourth-quarter woes. We scored 100, but we shot 4-for-12 in the fourth.
“It’s hard, whether you score 60 points or 100 points, if you don’t do the job in the fourth quarter you’re going to lose the game. The past couple of years we’ve had a couple of plays we can call, and we’re a little out of place.”
JO: ‘I’m ready’
Jermaine O’Neal, after three weeks of two-a-day workouts and one-on-one basketball in Chicago with a trainer, rejoined the Celtics.
The center will run through his first practice with the team tomorrow in San Antonio since having left knee surgery on Feb. 4, and he has an especially ambitious goal: He wants to play in Thursday night’s game against the Spurs
