Cincinnati Police Apologize to Adam "Pacman" [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Cincinnati Police admit putting Bengals player Adam "Pacman" [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] in handcuffs after Sunday's game was a mistake. Police Chief Tom Streicher says [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ran his car onto a sidewalk outside the stadium Sunday. But says detaining him after the incident was a case of mistaken identity.
Police say [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] was in a turn lane started to go straight ... then almost hit a car ... quickly corrected and landed on the sidewalk. That caused a pedestrian to fall but no one got hurt. An officer doing traffic detail quickly responded.
The police officer who saw [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]'s Jaguar on the sidewalk thought there had been an accident. She ran his driver's license issued from the state of Georgia. "And the dispatcher says 1722 are you aware there's a leads hit on the person?" Meaning the police computer system showed someone by the name [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] was wanted.
However the dispatcher quickly came back saying it wasn't the Bengal's player. Cincinnati Police Chief Tom Streicher: "Unfortunately a crowd started to gather at the scene and unfortunately the officer didn't hear communications say that it's on a different person."
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] was with a female passenger. He was handcuffed and as the crowd grew larger he asked the officer if they could move. She did move a few blocks away ... ran a computer check of her own and realized the mixup. "It's a mistake,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it's not something I'm happy about, or anybody would be happy about. Anyone in Mister [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]' shoes wouldn't be happy about it either."
Police chief Tom Streicher says he apologized to the Bengals and coach Marvin Lewis and was awaiting a call from [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] to offer a personal apology. The contact card that details what happened says [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] was belligerent. The chief says that doesn't mean he resisted in any way ... it means he was upset ... and he can understand that someone would be upset in that situation.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] was not cited for the traffic move which caused his car to end up on the sidewalk. The officer involved will not face any disciplinary action.
