Quincy Douby's former agent wins tampering case
The story of Quincy Douby's agent acting improperly won't get the attention of the Reggie Bush Jersey controversy, but Douby's agent recently became one of the few sports agents to be successfully prosecuted for improper behavior.
Howard Beck of The New York Times has the full story, but the basic facts are these:
-Keith Glass, Douby's former agent, negotiated a four-year, $6.5 million deal for Douby under the NBA's rookie scale.
-After Douby's rookie season, Douby fired Glass via fax on April 26th. On May 14th, Douby signed with his new agent, Andy Miller. Glass became suspicious of a possible prior relationship between Douby and Miller.
-Some digging on Glass' part that telephone conversations between Miller and Jack Ringel, Douby's high school coach and close confidant,NCAA Jerseys, had taken place as early as March 20th. He also found that Miller had visited Ringel on April 24th. One of Miller's employees also called Douby 9 minutes before Douby called Glass and informed him that he planned to end their business relationship.
Miller had to pay Glass $40,000 in damages, he may face discipline from the N.B.A, and his reputation has been damaged.
Douby played in Turkey last season and is currently represented by Happy Waters. |
