Falcons rusher Snelling wins NFC Offensive Player of the Week honor
Jason Snelling picked up a nice piece of hardware for his career-best afternoon.
The Atlanta Falcons running back was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his 186 yard, three TD performance in Atlanta’s 41-7 demolition of the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
The forth-year rusher from Virginia nabbed his first Offensive Player of the week award after rushing for 129 yards and two scored and catching five passes for 57 yards and a score in the team’s home opener at the Dome.
Snelling, who became only the second player in franchise history to record at least 125 yards on the ground, 50 in the air and nab a rushing and receiving touchdown in a single game, was the fifth rusher in team history to nab the league’s top offensive weekly honor.
Gerald Riggs won the NFC’s top offensive honor four times, Jamal Anderson Jersey and Michael Turner were honored three times and Warrick Dunn won the award once.
William Andrews was the only other player in Falcons history to rush for over 125 yards, gain more than 50 yards in the air and post rushing and receiving TDs. He did that in 1983.
Snelling was pressed into action because Turner went down to a groin injury and his backup,NFL Jerseys, Jerious Norwood, tore an ACL returning a kick on the first play from scrimmage. With Norwood out for the season and Turner still nursing the injury, expect the Atlanta rusher to get more touches in the Dirty Bird’s Week 3 matchup against New Orleans Saints.
Snelling is also a candidate for the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week Award. Falcons can help get the Atlanta rusher the nod by voting here.
